Video Games have been a huge part of my life from an early age. I vividly remember playing my Atari 2600 on a 10 inch black and white tv as a kid. Now games are more like interactive television series and I am all the more happy for it.

One of my favorite gaming franchises is the Mass Effect series. When Mass Effect one arrived one the XBox 360, I was immediately entranced with this series. Commander Shepard and the crew of the Normandy were the coolest. When part two came out I was shocked when (spoilers) the iconic ship from the first game was destroyed almost immediately. Then we got the SR-2.

This one is an oldie but, in honor of N7 day ,I give you the Mass Effect Normandy SR2 Ship Replica from Dark Horse.

The Model:

Normandy 1

Dark Horse is best known for their amazing comics. Everything from Hellboy to Buffy the Vampire Slayer, they publish some of the best work around. Not many people realize that they also produce very cool collectibles including really cool statues from licenses like Game of Thrones, Witcher and even the subject of today’s review, Mass Effect.

This model is a depiction of the Normandy SR-2 from Mass Effect 2. This ship was built by the organization known as Cerberus for the newly revived Commander Shepherd (your character in the game). The statue shows it in its prime and it really looks solid. It isn’t a very large piece but fits on a shelf nicely.

The box:

This is a very basic collector friendly box. On the front you will find a basic shot of the ship and on the back, multiple angles can be seen. The box is worth holding onto, while bigger than it really needs to be, it makes a great place to store and transport the fragile model inside.

Inside the box:

Normandy box 3

The ship is packed in a two part Styrofoam inner that contains both the model and the stand. Really, that’s all. What were you expecting more?

The Sculpt:

Normandy 5

This is a gorgeous sculpt that appears to be taken directly from the 3D renderings from the game. Every detail of the ship’s exterior is on it and there is not a bad spot to be seen. There is no doubt that THIS is the Normandy.

The Paint:

The Paint app is decent. Could it be better, sue, but this is an out of the box pre-painted model that doesn’t run $200+ so you have to allow for a little flex. The piece is clearly hand painted and not one that was run through a printer. There are a few sloppy bits but they are really only noticeable if you go looking for them.

Articulation:

None to speak of. This is a static model

Overall:

This is a cool piece. For $35 piece released 6 years ago, you cant really go wrong with it. I am happy to have it on my shelf along with my other sci-fi ship models.

Where to get:

You can pick these up still all over but the best price I have see in from Thing From Another World: HERE for $35.

Thanks for reading my review. You can also find other reviews on my home page and here: My Intro to the new Vynl line from Funko and the PX Exclusive Daredevil from Mezco.

  1. Mass Effect is my alltime favorite gameseries. Off all the games that I have played over the years, those I have the best memories for. Never have I experienced greater characters or a better storyline than for those games. This model looks awesome: thanks for sharing this 😉
