Hello Fellow Adventurer! And welcome to my newest quest to keep myself (and you, of course) entertained with a smile: Nickflix (Drunk) Movie Reviews! This enlightening series maybe seem really self-explanatory but let me regale you on how it came to be.
One day, while in self-isolation during the Covidapocalypse (the COVID-19 pandemic for those in need of even further explanation), I was looking at all the streaming movies on Amazon Prime and noticed how many really schlocky movies they had in their repertoire…I mean, A LOT! And some had really clever & terrible names to accompany them. And the thought of watching them while inebriated sounded absolutely wonderful to me. And the idea was hatched. But what to call it? Well, gentle reader, my name is Nick and we are watching Flix. I think you see where I’m going here… 😁
But to ensure that I was sticking to the “so bad its good” department of cinema, I decided to make a few rules guidelines.
RULE 1) Must be a B-Movie (or lower grade).
This is a must. The whole point is that these movies are bad, either intentionally or unintentionally.
RULE 2) Should have an iMDB rating of 5.0 / 10
This is one of those “guidelines” we mentioned. There will obviously be notable exceptions (including our first review) but we shall try not to disappoint on the Schlock Level.
RULE 3) Always start with one drink in hand.
What’s the point of watching these movies sober? If we are going to do this, we are going to do it correctly.
RULE 4) The rating system will reflect on how many drinks it takes to get through a movie.
So the thought is a bit backwards but hear me out. Instead of 1-5 stars (with 5 being the best rating), we are going to do 1-5 drinks (with 5 being the hardest to get through sober). I’m limiting it to 5 because I promised our executive producer (my GF) that I wouldn’t get alcohol poisoning.
RULE 5) Every review will have a different drink of choice.
Another “guideline” we will try to uphold. One week it will be assisted by Guinness (sorry Corona…too soon) and another will be helped by Captain Morgan. Just to add a little spice to the mix.
