Stand Out Albums has been a showcase for my favorite albums across the vast performers that I love.  Covering a little bit of everything from classic rock to country hits, much like Key Movies of My Life, it has been the albums that shaped me.

Today we continue our exploration of the band Marcy Playground with a rather special release that came out a year after their 2009 album Leaving Wonderland… the album Indaba Remixes From Wonderland.

Why This Album?

This is a pretty unique album as the band opened their music to fans and other musicians world wide in order to create new versions of the tracks from their 2009 release.  What we get is a blend of traditional dance style remixes coupled with stunning acapella renditions giving these songs a completely new flavor that, is pretty darn tasty.

Where the original album was much more introspective, this remix album is much more upbeat and full of a kinetic energy that is undeniable.  From the dance party feel of the Max Kourilov Remix of Blackbird to the Star Capella Baby Remix of Star Baby, this album is almost like when a film has clever versions of it’s music in the end credits just for fun.  Each track is a pure celebration of Marcy Playground and their timeless music.  In a way, I really wish the band would gather more remixes of their other albums just to see where it could go from here.

Overall, If you love Marcy Playground like I do, you need to give Indaba Remixes a go.  At first it may feel off, but after diving in, you will find it is nothing but pure delight.  Give it a spin, I think you’ll dig it.

Favorite Tracks

Star Baby – Star Capella Baby Remix  I have a soft spot for Acapella tracks and this one is just too fun.

Blackbird – Assaf Spector Remix  This one is less of a dance mix and more of a reimagining of an already great song bringing in some curious beatle-esqe vibes through and through.

Good Times – this was my favorite track from the previous album and this remix does it true justice. Stripped down with a killer bass line.  Yeah, can’t go wrong.

Ok, Where do I get it?

This one is essentially out of print but that shouldnt stop you.  Grab it here or listen to it via spotify.  Either way.  it’s totally worth it.

Next week, one more Playground and then on to something new…. Till then…
