As many of you know I am a huge comic book fan and love Funko’s new Vynl line. So,  it goes without saying that I do enjoy a good Pop Vinyl from time to time.  Today’s entry feeds both the figure and the comic itch. So, I present the PX exclusive Blue Beetle and Booster Gold Two Pack (regular and metallic editions).

Today’s Figures(s):

Blue Beetle and Booster Gold are two iconic characters from DC Comics who, somehow, manage to keep coming back time after time. They are the quintessential B-team and, only true DC fans of old will really appreciate this set.  Diamond really outdid themselves on this set making not one but two version of the duo, the regular colored and the metallic versions.

The Box:

The box is the same on both so there is no reason to show you them both. They are completely collector friendly, so you don’t have to worry about any twist ties or tape. They also showcase the figures well so, if you are an in box collector, you don’t have to remove them to enjoy the figures.   The back of the box shows both figures and their respective logo treatments.

What’s Inside:

Each box comes with both figures, One Blue Beetle and one Booster Gold.  They have zero accessories and that is where I think this is a little bit of a miss,  they really should have had a tiny Skeets pop to go with them.  For those of you new to the Blue and Gold, Skeets is Booster’s constant android companion and would have made a terrific mini pop.

Sculpt:

The sculpts are the typical POP Vinyl fare, with the bulbous head and big black eyes.  I am always amazing on how such a simple design can actually look like the characters and there is no doubt as to who these folk are.

One thing that makes these guys a little more unique is the clear lenses that they used on their masks.  They could have easily gone with the solid lenses like they did with Lobster Johnson but they went that extra mile and really nailed the look with the clear.  This is a big plus in my book.

Paint:

Regular versions:

The paint app on Blue Beetle is solid through and through.   His costume is the light blue reflecting the classic Ted Kord look from the comic. Sadly, I can’t say the same about Booster.  He is a little messy in places, particularly the hair line and where the blue and gold parts of his costume meet.  Booster could have been done a little better but it still looks good overall

Metallic Versions:

These are the superior of the two in my opinion.   The paint app on both are very clean and have a very nice sheen to them.  One thing I did notice is that the colors are darker and more vivid on the metallic editions.  Both Beetle and Booster really pop in this set and, while Booster’s Hairline is still a little sloppy, this set is by far my favorite of the two.

Articulation:

Not much to speak of here, they are POP vinyl and their heads move.  What more do you want?

Overall:

I love Blue Beetle and Booster Gold,  I have for much of my life. Getting these POP really made my day and I know any fan of the Blue and Gold will feel the same way. Both Beetle and Booster sets look superb but, if you have a choice, I would go with the metallic set.  They are by far the superior ones and look amazing.

Where To Get:

Most places have these up for preorder and they will be shipping pretty soon.  You can get them for around $22 for the set, which is really a good price when you consider most exclusives sell for $12+ these days.

Here are a few places I found them for sale:

Entertainment Earth (ships January 2018) ($22.99)

Regular version

Metallic Version

Nerdy Collectibles (ships Late December) ($21.99)

Regular Version

Metallic Version

Toywiz (ships January 2018) ($22.99)

Regular Version

Metallic Version

I’m sure if you asked your local comic shop nicely they would order a set or two for you as well.   They tend to be cool like that.  If you don’t have a good local comic shop, I do recommend Unknown Comics, the owner is a good guy and he will take care of you. (No, it’s not me, I don’t have the patience to run a store.  ugh.)

  1. Never heard of these characters (but then again I am not as familiair with the DC universe as I am with the Marvel universe), but I have to admit these figures look amazing. I love these figure posts every time 😀

  2. Blue Beetle and Booster Gold are in fact awesome. I remember being younger and always loving when Booster Gold would show up on the Batman: The Brave and the Bold cartoon when I was a kid. And I was never an avid reader of comics, but the few issues I’ve read with them I’ve enjoyed immensely. I might have to pick this set up. Thanks for sharing.
